In Dahab you can truly find a destination that resembles a fairy tale, a postcard or a breathtaking poster seen in a travel agency.
Dahab used to be a Bedouin village full of fishermen and in those days a meeting point for backpackers and hippies. Now it is an international community for all types of traveler who still dare to dream of a non-standard and non-all-inclusive destination - a town with its own international soul and with a strong character.
When I mention Dahab, I do it with my heart in my hands, and with my soul full of love. If you respect the local culture, the coral reef, the see-through sea, Dahab is already waiting to give to you as a present its colors, its visions, its unforgettable memories and stories.
But you should know whom you are dealing with. For example, don’t expect sandy beaches (unless you choose Lagona Village, Happy Life Hotel or Swiss Inn Golden Beach Resort, in our list, or a place in Tarabin). Because Dahab lies on an astonishing coral reef. If you have children and you are reserving a hotel on the reef, you could ask for a hotel with swimming pool.
Don’t expect Dahab to be windless– except the Lighthouse Area (Red Sea Relax Hotel or Nirvana Hotel, also in our list), because Dahab is also a famous for wind-surfing. Its heart is big and generous, and it offers divers, windsurfers, snorkelers and travelers alike the possibility to enjoy its magnificent coasts and its mountains. So, to be fair, let’s say that for a half of the time you will find quiet, silent days with zero wind, and half of the time moderate-to-strong winds, depending on the location and the seasons.
Last but not least: you are entering a Muslim country. This means generous people, unforgettable hospitality and a very safe environment, both for you and your possessions. However don’t expect religious, racist or political arguments to be appreciated. In the same way, please respect the local customs by avoiding provocative clothes or topless sunbathing.
Dahab is the perfect starting point for trips into the desert, with its oasis’s and canyons, or for journeying to the rocky mountains, the ancient Moses Mountain and Saint Catherine Monaster, its within range of Nuweiba/Tarabin and Taba and also the perfect spot for diving off-shore (no need for a boat!), for surfing and much more.
